Global Medical Education

Global Medical Education-Medicine for HumanityMedicine for Humanity is currently establishing a web-based education program which will dramatically improve the medical knowledge and procedural skills of African nurses and doctors and, most importantly, retain critically needed local medical personnel in their native countries.  All too often aspiring African medical personnel seek and complete their education in developed nations and then don’t return home, resulting in a major loss to their country.

MFH believes that medical education in the local context will ensure sustained improved medical care and also markedly decrease the number of African doctors and nurses who leave their country never to return.

MFH-Surgical Team-UgandaWorking with collaborating African medical facilities, Medicine for Humanity will deliver obstetric and gynecologic courses, lectures, and interactive conferences developed by Dr. James Woods, Chair of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of Rochester, New York.  Dr. Lagasse indicates, “The availability of affordable, reliable Internet connections makes the delivery of advanced web-based courses practical now.  To date there has never been an opportunity such as this to provide medical education materials to Africa so efficiently.”

Ultimately it is Medicine for Humanity’s goal to create a model of medical education that can be replicated in hospitals and clinics in other underserved countries throughout the world.  Additionally, by reducing preventable maternal and newborn deaths, the health of villages and countries will be significantly enhanced.
