Dr. Musa Kayondo

Project Director & Lead Surgeon

Dr. Musa Kayondo is a Gynecologist and fistula surgeon at Mbarara University Teaching and Referral Hospital in Mbarara, Uganda.  He is the Chief of Obstetrics and Gynecology and head of the Fistula plus Female Pelvic Medicine and Reconstructive Surgery Division at MUST/ MRRH.  Since 2010, Dr. Kayondo has also been a full time Senior Lecturer of Obstetrics and Gynecology at MUST.

Dr. Kayondo is a member of the International Society of Obstetric Fistula Surgeons (ISOFS), as well as a member of the Uganda Fistula Technical Working Group (FTWG), which was established by the Ugandan Ministry of Health to manage fistula programs including surgery, training and prevention of obstetric fistula in Uganda.

Dr. Kayondo first volunteered his services to Medicine for Humanity during his residency in 2009.  In 2010, he became the first graduate of the MUST/ MFH collaborative Female Pelvic Medicine and Reconstructive Surgery Program.

Dr. Kayondo continues to be of service as the lead local surgeon during MFH’s annual fistula surgical program. He trains and mentors doctors and medical residents in fistula surgery and Urogynecology on a year round basis.

He is married to Dr. Violette Nabatte, who is a pediatrician at a local upcountry hospital for children living with HIV/ AIDS.  They have two children Moses and Martha.
